A renowned Pseudo skeptic has taken a exceptional turnaround in his belief regarding the afterlife and what is understood as the so called ‘paranormal.’ Dr. Michael Persinger, the famous Neuroscientist at Ontario University who is a self proclaimed Atheist – hailed by skeptics for his “God helmet” experiments as being evidence against NDE’s being evidence for an afterlife, has turned the tables on his skeptic admirers by announcing that he has now discovered a proven telepathic link in his experiments with test subjects connected by magnetic fields.
The mainstay of skeptical enquiry has been to prove that ESP, Telepathy, the sixth sense and mediumship is no more than a gimmick sported by individuals who are often misguided. This reversal in belief is a huge breakthrough not only for the scientific community and a huge thorn in the side of Neuroscience due to the revelations and evidence that resulted from the Doctors experimentation. Perhaps Dr Michael Persinger should be hailed as an intrepid explorer known for his fearless investigative approach to subjects typically scorned by egg heads and ignorant ego’s.
The scientist is famed for his “God Helmet” experimentation, which was a test that involved wearing a helmet that stimulated the time related lobes with a magnetic field, this in turn prompts religious states. Dr Persinger has concluded that a connection does indeed exist between two individuals connected by a magnetic field, he maintains “What we have found is that if you place two different people at a distance and put a circular magnetic field around both, and you make sure they are connected to the same computer so they get the same stimulation, then if you flash a light in one person’s eye the person in the other room receiving just the magnetic field will show changes in their brain as if they saw the flash of light. We think that’s tremendous because it may be the first macro demonstration of a quantum connection, or so-called quantum entanglement. If true, then there’s another way of possible communication that may have physical applications, for example, in space travel.”
Of course, like any skeptical enquirer, he has to keep slightly skeptical of his own results so not to lose confront with the skeptical movement, however the results speak for themselves and the bold Doctor is not afraid to be controversial. He has this to say about his colleagues in the scientific field, “I think the basic thing about science is to be open-minded. It’s really important to realize that the true subject matter of science is the pursuit of the unknown. Sadly scientists have become extraordinarily group-oriented. Our most typical critics are not are mystic believer types. They are scientists who have a thin vision of what the world is like.”
What does this average for our work in Science and Mediumship?
This is a enormous breakthrough in the work to help people understand the validity of the sixth sense, ESP and of course mediumship, but we must not get too comfortable as their is far more to be done. Though we consider this as a major breakthrough, we must remember there will be an already greater concerted effort to probe the claims and prove them to be ineffective and inconclusive. This is the reason that we should not rest on our laurels and to continue our investigations, testing and validating evidence based on sound scientific principles to ensure our standards in mediumship keep high.
